When Carol and David's five children finally left the nest, they were ready for some carefree living. They started out with a very specific wish list and a very unspecific area. Their search took them all over the city and county - even making them question if they really could have it all. After finding "the one", they unfortunately found that not every path to home ownership is smooth. From survey stress to havoc with their HVAC, the struggle was real to say the least. With patience and perseverance, they ended up with an amazingly cool and energy efficient forever home.

You sold AND purchased a new home at the same time. Were you downsizing, up-sizing, or just needing a change of scenery?

We were “rightsizing.” We loved our 85-year-old home in University City but found ourselves spending a lot of time and money on upkeep and maintenance. We wondered what we would do if an injury or illness prevents us from accessing the master bedroom and bath on the second floor. Dang, that makes us sound like “old people,” but we decided now was a good time to make a move, while we are in good health, can enjoy a new home, and get to know a new neighborhood.

How did you feel the first time you walked in; was it love at first sight?

I can be fairly picky, so I didn’t walk in and immediately say this was the house for us. Also, it was such a departure from all of our other houses. It took me about 24 hours to be able to picture myself and our things in the house. Once we made the decision, we have not had a second thought.

Were there any unexpected challenges that came up when buying your new home or selling your previous home?

There were several unexpected challenges when buying and selling. Every time something came up, all I could say was, “Thank goodness we have Garcia Properties working for us.” That sounds cheesy, but it’s the truth!

It sounds like moving was both exciting and stressful; what was the best part of the process?

Knowing that, God willing, this would be our last move! We also know that we did find the perfect house, in the perfect neighborhood, and for the right price.

What made you choose Garcia Properties?

I researched Garcia online and was impressed with the organization and ownership. Everywhere we drove in South City, we kept seeing Garcia “for sale” signs! It was great working with a local group rather than a national firm or franchise.
